Taking Care Of You - Can You Make The Time?

Have you noticed that you’re spending less time on you since your kids were born? Perhaps it’s been a while since you had a date night with your partner? Or maybe you haven’t managed to get to your favourite class for a while? There are so many things that seemed so routine before we were parents. And now we can’t remember enjoying those finer things in life at all!

‘Me’ time is so important. It’s about personal care, thinking time, and treating yourself. Parents will always prioritise their children in everything they do. Every big decision in the family is made taking them into consideration. It’s a part of parenting that we all just accept. But it could be the reason why we don’t spend quite as much ‘me’ time as we used to. There simply isn’t a benefit to the children, so we don’t ‘waste’ our time.

Of course, taking care of you is never a waste of time. And a happy Mum makes for happier children. If you’re spending time enjoying the little grown-up things in life, you can become a more balanced and well-rounded person. And all of us want our kids to grow up to be balanced and well-rounded too! So take the time. How about a spa day? Why not take a weekend break away with your partner? You don’t have to go far.

You might be up for having a makeover? Why not indulge in a new haircut or a whole new wardrobe? You can even check out the National Teeth Whitening Directory and treat yourself to a fabulous new smile. There are so many things that could help you feel incredible. Take an evening a week for a new hobby doing something you’ve always wanted to try. Or you could even take a night school class. Many of us forget we’re individuals as well as parents. And it’s OK to be both.

Making a plan in life just for you may seem indulgent. But it is worth doing it to help you feel connected with who you are, beyond your role as a parent. Can you make time in your life for both? Committing to one night a week away from the house isn’t bad parenting. It’s important for you. So pick a class or activity, and commit! Your partner can take care of your child. And you can return the favour when they want to go out one evening. You should also take the time to nurture your relationship with your partner. One weekend a month is not too much time to take.

To make the most of your free time, it’s important to find a good babysitter that you trust. This may be a parent or sibling. Or you may find a reputable childminder locally that can also offer enriched activities for the kids. You are a worthy investment, so it’s a good idea to put a little money away each month for this. Add it to your budget, and make the most of a little time for you. After all, happy Mums make the best parents!
