A few weeks ago I saw a video on facebook that made me sob. It was a video showing the operation christmas child (watch it here but be prepared to shed a tear) which is basically a scheme to help less fortunate children have a smile on their face this christmas.
The idea is to fill a shoebox with gifts and hygiene/sweet items that would help keep them clean and happy.
Honestly the sheer look of happiness and excitement on these childrens faces was incredible and I really want to help give that feeling to one of these children too.
'A small shoebox can have a big impact. What goes into the box is fun, but what comes out of it is eternal. Be a part of changing children’s lives all over the world in Jesus’ name through the power of a simple gift with Operation Christmas Child.'
I explained to Josh what it was all about and how some little boys and girls don't have everything that he has, and after he listened he thought about it for a few seconds and ran straight upstairs. I asked him what he was doing, and he came down with lots of tops from his wardrobe to give a little boy (how sweet is he!) and rummaged through his toys and picked out things to give him. I was really pleased with how he reacted and how much he understood and wanted to help make another child happy. It taught him a good lesson and gives another child a reason to smile this christmas.
It took me ages to find a shoe box, but once I found one I tried my hardest to wrap it with Josh and completely failed. I called on the help of my dad who wrapped it for us so that we could fill it with lots of treats for a little boy.
I asked Josh to pick a few items from the shop that he would like to receive. We also added some chocolate and sweets, and Josh was so excited filling up the box with everything.
You then print off this tag to go on top, where you tick which year group and whether the box is filled for a boy or a girl.
My friend also completed a box with her little boy here;
She even wrote a message from her son and added his picture which is a lovely idea.
All you have to do to take part is follow these three simple steps;
Find an empty medium sized shoebox and wrap the box and lid separately.
Download and print the appropriate boy/girl label. Mark the correct age category and place the label in your shoebox.
Fill your shoebox with a variety of new gifts that will bring delight to a child. Add your £3 shipping donation and take it to a drop off point.
I cannot wait to send off this box with Josh as he really has enjoyed doing this with me to. If you want to take part visit the website here but the cut off point is the 18th so you haven't got long!
Operation christmas child.
