Encourage Your Kids To be More Active During The Summer Holidays With These Amazing Tips

Any parent will tell you that the summer holidays are tough. While it’s amazing to have that time with your children, especially if you are home with them, but hard to keep them entertained. You are bound to hear the words “I’m bored” at some point. This is why some children end up stuck on their computer games or watching videos. While technology isn’t always a bad thing, it’s best to try and encourage them to be more active during the holidays. Which is why I thought I would share with you some tips on how to do that.

Encourage them to try a new hobby

A great way to get your kids to be more active is to encourage them to try a new hobby. This is where the Olympic games are on at the perfect time. It’s a great opportunity for your child to have their eyes opened up to other sports and activities that are not just the mainstream hobbies. Open up the conversation with them and find out if there is anything they would like to give a try or pursue.

Organise playdates

During the holidays, it’s the perfect time to organise some playdates. Getting children together means they are less likely to be sat on their own and there's more chance of them being outside and active. Having a playdate can take the pressure of you a little as well. It may give you some company as well as your children. This can make the summer holidays much easier to tackle.

Get outside as much as possible

While you don’t want to be spending money each day, it’s still important to get outside with your children as much as possible. So head to local parks and open spaces and encourage your children to be active. It could be a simple as running around or kicking a ball about. Local parks are great for this; they tend to have great options for kids while also not costing much at all to be in them.

Create some competition to make it fun

Sometimes it’s important to generate a little competitiveness. This is where having a competition yourself or entering your children into local ones is a great idea. Not only does it keep them occupied it gives them something to work towards. You could even consider investing in some trophies. It’s always nice for a prize to be available at the end.

Be a good influence and get active yourself

Finally, it’s all well and good encouraging your children to be active but if you are not doing it yourself then it may not be a good thing. Children are heavily influenced by their parents. So it may be much easier to encourage a more active life if you are being active yourself. It’s simple. You don’t need to be heading to the gym each day, but get involved in what they are doing and show how much you enjoy being outside and active. Your kids will follow suit sure enough.

I hope these tips help you encourage your children to be more active.
